All ice melters, under certain conditions, will eventually refreeze. This possibility is increased if the melted slush is not removed form the surface. This refreezing creates a safety hazard. Many areas can fall into this category because of budget restraints or unavailable maintenance personnel and equipment. A typical example is various mass transit systems of trains/subways/buses that move huge numbers of people with their assorted waiting areas, steps, etc. Walkway® "Track"tion Ice Melter is formulated to solve this type problem. When the product is applied the calcium chloride portion immediately goes to work with its quick melting action which breaks the bond of ice and snow impregnating the surface to leave a deposit of aggregate to increase traction. Should refreezing occur, because the slush is not removed, the exposed aggregate is still available to provide traction.
Product Information Walkway® "Track"tion Ice Melter is a blend of calcium chloride and anti-slip aggregates. The calcium breaks the bond of ice and snow impregnating the surface to leave a deposit to increase traction.
Particularly vulnerable are those concrete surfaces in which substandard practices were used in the formulation, placement, finishing and/or curing stages of construction. Also vulnerable are all concretes that are less than one year old, precast steps, masonry (stone or brick), existing concrete that has exposed aggregate, is precast, prestressed, chipped, cracked, spalled, or weathered. The use of any ice melter on these types of surfaces is not recommended, and therefore can only be done at the user's own risk. To minimize potential damage use this ice melter, and any other ice melting product, on only "quality concrete" that is air-entrained, mixed, placed and cured according to recommendations of American Concrete Institute Committee 201. The potential of damage to concrete surfaces can also be decreased by sealing surfaces and by removing slush tat results from melting. Ice melting agents applied at much greater rates than recommended may interfere with traction or footing. When using any ice melter good housekeeping practices and use of outside mats and inside 'walk-off' mats are encouraged for optimum safety and minimal impact on floor coverings. When grass and shrubbery are adjacent to icy surfaces, particular care should be used to avoid excessive or repeated application, as it could cause damage. The use of this ice-melting compound must be at the consumer's risk. Warning: Causes irritation - Harmful if swallowed When grass and shrubbery are adjacent to icy surfaces, particular care should |
